On July 17 and 18 of 2024, the CPDP LatAm conference will be dedicated to the theme “Data Governance: From Latin America to the G20” and will be followed by a one-day event on “Digital Sovereignty in the G20“, on 19 July.
CPDP Latam is the Latin American platform to discuss privacy, data protection and technology. It includes the Latin American editions of the Computers, Privacy and Data Protection (CPDP) conference, the MyData conference, and Privacy Law Scholars Conference (PLSC).
For this edition, one of the Privacy Salon and CPDP team members Ine Van Zeeland will be part of the panel discussion about "The Impact of EU AI Regulation on Latin American AI Governance".
ABOUT THE PANEL:
Panel Title: The Impact of EU AI Regulation on Latin American AI Governance: Emerging AI Authorities?
This panel will explore the EU AI Act's influence on the development of AI governance frameworks within Latin America, focusing mainly on the establishment and role of AI supervisory authorities.
A comparative analysis will address the complexities and challenges Latin American countries face in adopting similar AI governance models. Case studies from Brazil, Chile, and other Latin American nations will showcase diverse approaches to establishing new AI supervisory authorities. Additionally, the panel will consider the broader implications for transcontinental regulatory alignment and the unique aspects of Latin American legal and institutional contexts.
Panel Questions:
- Should existing Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) in Latin America be expanded to include AI oversight, or should new dedicated AI authorities be established?
- What are the advantages and disadvantages of the different AI supervisory models observed in Europe?
The panel will have the participation of representatives from data protection authorities (ANPD), academia (VUB, FGV, and the University of Chile), and civil society (Data Privacy Brasil).
