Francesco Paolo Levantino is a PhD Candidate in international law at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies of Pisa and a Visiting Researcher at VUB (Research Group on Law, Science, Technology and Society). His research project focusses on some uses of AI in law enforcement. In 2020, he obtained the European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation, with a thesis on the human rights implications of facial recognition technology at the KU Leuven Centre for Public Law. In 2018, he graduated summa cum laude in law from the University of Palermo; his thesis in criminal law delved into the profound impact the adoption of pre-emptive counterterrorism measures brought to the structure of some criminal offences, receiving a special commendation.
