Oliver leads AlgorithmWatch's 'Auditing Algorithms for Systemic Risks' project which combines research, advocacy, and policy work, particularly around the EU Digital Services Act. He was previously an official working on social media, Brexit and the GDPR, and counter-disinformation for the UK Prime Minister's Office and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and has worked as an independent expert for CASM Technology, The Institute for Strategic Dialogue, Demos and The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. He holds a PhD in sociology of social media from University College London as well as a degree in Natural Sciences & History and Philosophy of Science from Cambridge University.
